William "Bill" Britt passed away on Saturday, April 22nd after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He left this world peacefully in the embrace of his beloved wife Pamela; to whom he was married to for 30 years. He was 69 years young.
Bill's legacy is his two sons, William M. "Will" Britt of Miami, FL and Tyler D. Britt and his wife Carissa, of Cranston. He also leaves behind his brother, Michael A. Britt of Pawtucket and sister Donna Riley of Seekonk, and Pamela's large family who always considered him one of their own. He is predeceased by his parents Mae (Batastini) & Bill Britt of Pawtucket, and brother-in law Bruce Riley.
Raised in Pawtucket, he attended Tolman High School where he excelled academically & lettered in three sports, achieving All-State in two. In 1972, he led the Tolman football team to the State Championship and an undefeated season, and it was his dedication and talent in football that earned him a full scholarship to the University of Rhode Island. While there he earned a Bachelor's degree and Graduate degree in physical education. Bill captained the team in 1976, made all-American status, and even traveled to Germany to play the US Air Forces Europe All Stars, which was the highlight of his career. He was also a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He settled his family in Lincoln, where they resided for 28 years. Bill was a teacher and coach for 27 years in the Pawtucket schools. He coached three major varsity sports: football, baseball and basketball and was a well-loved and respected Phys Ed teacher. He enriched the lives of many, many young students and athletes. After his retirement in 2006, and never one to be idle, he worked full time for Golfer's Warehouse in Cranston. He became iconic at the "Warehouse" as he worked tirelessly to train employees and help golfers to improve their technique. His natural athletic ability coupled with knowledge and experience, earned him the respect of colleagues, peers and friends.
If golf were a metaphor for success in life, Billy hit it long & straight and further than the eye can see.
Truly, his family and friends are left with fond memories of a man who touched their lives in countless ways. Teacher, coach, brother, husband, neighbor, father, uncle, son & friend.
A teacher and a coach affect eternity; you can never tell where their influence stops.
