Salvatore Compagnone

June 17, 1928 — January 5, 2024

Salvatore M. Compagnone, 95, of Providence, RI, and Deerfield Beach, FL, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, January 5, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 67 years to the late Mary Evelyn (Fuoroli) Compagnone. Born in Johnston, he was the son of the late Michael and Lydia (DiMeo) Compagnone.

Sal was a third-generation general contractor, which can be traced back to his family from Teano, Italy. He was the founder, along with his wife, of Allstate Builders Inc., Rosemont Terrace/Lor-Sher Apartments, and CompRealty, and operated these from their home in Providence for over 60 years. He also was a partner/president in Compagnone Brothers, AMC Associates, Birchwood Manor/SCR, Inc., SMC Enterprises, Ledgemont Manor Apartments, J & S Associates, and Waterman Chenango, LLC. Sal was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, and The Elks Lodge.

Sal was the devoted father of Salvatore M. Compagnone, Jr. and his late wife, Anna R. (Esposito) Compagnone. He was the cherished grandfather of Lori Ann (Compagnone) Dunn and her husband Edward, and Sheri Ann (Compagnone) Colaluca and her husband Angelo. Sal adored his great-grandchildren: Anthony Thomas Bateman, Jr., James Salvatore Bateman and his partner Elyse Sevajian, Erik Dunn, Edward Francis Dunn IV, and Joseph Salvatore Edward Dunn. Sal was the beloved brother of Anthony “Buff” Compagnone, and the late Lillian (Compagnone) Raviele and Michael Compagnone. He also leaves many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Sal treasured his family and loved to travel with them. Sal was the family photographer and documented each and every family adventure. He also loved to spend time having coffee or going out dancing with his wife and friends. In the spring and summer, you could always find him in his garden growing his beef-steak tomatoes, squash, and many other vegetables. Over the years, he met many, many people and truly valued each relationship he made. Sal was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and deeply devoted in his faith.

His funeral will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, at 9 AM, from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM, in Sacred Heart Church, 118 Taunton Ave, East Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8 PM.
