Maria Assanti

Maria Assanti (nee` Santopietro), 92 of North Providence died peacefully with family at her side on Friday July 3, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Angelo Assanti who would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this year on September 1 st , 2026.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Giovanna (Martellini) Santopietro. She was known by many names to those her loved and cherished her, Mary, May, Marie and Maria, but her favorite names were that of Mom and Grandma.

She was well known for her cooking and baking, especially her yearly Christmas cookies that she started asking people about two months prior to know what to bake. In her free time, she enjoyed being with her family, watching her favorite programs of “The Price is Right” first with Bob Barker and later Drew Carey (who she called Drew Gary), “Wheel of Fortune” as well as the nightly news. She loved reading, crocheting and being a grandma to her grandchildren

Maria is survived by her husband Angelo Assanti of North Providence, her two daughters, Karen Assanti of Providence, and Debra Marocco and her husband George of Johnston, two sisters Theresa Di Biaso and Nancy DelBonis. She was grandmother of George and Michael Marocco of Johnston. She was the sister of the late Ida Taccone, Victoria Cipriano, Gori, Thomas, Armando, and Salvatore Santopietro. She will be missed dearly by all her loved ones

Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by aprayer service at 11:00 a.m. at Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, NorthProvidence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time
