Loraine A. Federici

May 21, 1953 — June 26, 2025

Loraine A. Federici, 72, passed away peacefully on June 26 surrounded by her family who was her heart and the most important part of her life.

She was the beloved wife of Michael F. Federici for 48 years - a marriage rooted in faith and God’s love. Born in Providence, she was the cherished daughter of the late Ethel A. “Penny” and Vincent J. Neri, Jr. She was also the kid sister to the late Vincent J. Neri III.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her daughter and “dream come true,” Penny C. Federici Humes and her husband, John Humes (whom Loraine lovingly named “SIL”); her sister and best friend, Carmela M. (Mel) Butler; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Marie and Johnny Federici, Cathy and Steve Pitassi, and Carol Federici-DePeron; her nieces and nephews: Jenny and Bobby Claudino, Lisa and Mike Montanaro, Rick Butler, Julie Greene, Cyndi and Chris Leonard, Colleen Sheridan, Vincent J. Neri IV, Stephanie and Dan Sarro, Annmarie LaDuke, and Cathryn LaDuke; her great-nieces and nephews: Toni, Sophie, Frankie, Roberto (the “pea”), Logan, Sarah, Travis, and Brandon in addition to her many great-great nieces and nephews. Family was an anchor for Loraine and the greatest blessing in her life - she loved hers with all of her heart.

An accomplished banker, she started her professional career as a teller and worked her way up to become a well-respected mortgage banker for more than a decade. She retired from her career in banking to pursue her most fulfilling and cherished role: being a full-time mom. A valued member of the St. Augustine’s community in Providence, she successfully ran the Extended Day Program (EDP) for nearly 25 years. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Augustine’s Church, faithfully serving as a lector for more than 30 years. She had a distinct and beautiful voice and loved singing the hymns during Mass.

She also loved her grandkitty, Carina, grandpuppy, Vito, and entertaining, cooking, and baking for her family and friends. She’ll always be known for her Swedish apple pie, Christmas trifle, baked macaroni, beef stew, Jewish apple cake, pizzelles, and doughboys. Her favorite places to be included inside her cozy home, either decorated with cute things or impeccably done for the holidays; enjoying breakfast in her screen house; having Chinese Friday takeout; and snuggling with her fur-kitty daughter, Cookie. She loved her condo and being a part-time resident of North Conway, NH, for 10 years, going on family vacations, and frequenting the slot machines at local New England casinos or in Atlantic City.

Her smile, kind nature, quick wit, and great sense of humor made her loved by all who met and knew her. She was beloved by her friends and family for being a wonderful listener who not only gave of herself but gave sound advice.

Throughout their years together, Mike, her husband, soulmate, and best friend - her “pettie” - showed unwavering love and devotion to her, always putting her needs first and standing by her side with constant care and steadfast loyalty.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4-7 p.m.. Her funeral will be held on Thursday July 3, 2025, at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Augustine’s Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Loraine will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
