Obituary

Katherine “Bunny” Placco

Katherine Barbara Placco, 91, passed away on May 9, 2026. She was born in Providence Rhode Island, the daughter of the late John and Barbara Holmes. She was the wife of the late Oscar Placco with whom she spent 55 years of adventures and lasting love. Many of these years were spent experiencing the world with family, living in Linkoping, Sweden and Nagoya, Japan, where she became immersed in their cultures.

Bunny’s life with Oscar was exciting as his job required business in many countries in Europe, the Near East and Asia. She served as the official hostess at diplomatic dinners for Oscar, thus giving her the opportunity to meet heads of state, defense ministers, and other dignitaries.

Bunny attended Rhode Island School of Design and held a BA in Sociology from Eastern Connecticut State College.

She had a unique ability to relate to others. Bunny was charismatic and understanding. She had lifelong friends and always provided a listening ear with good advice for others.

She had a beautiful voice; she loved to sing and often joked about wishing she could belt it out on top of a piano in a cabaret with long silk gloves and a shiny mic. She would have been glamorous with her bright blue eyes. Bunny was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook known for her ability to prepare meals for any occasion, especially clambakes at Pt. Judith. She loved bringing friends and family together.

The light of her life was her grandson, Jamie. She was proud to attend his graduation from West Point in May of 2019.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara in 1986 and her husband Oscar in 2012. She is survived by her children Christopher Placco and his wife Wendy of San Diego, CA, Katherine Haloburdo of West Palm Beach, FL, grandson James Placco of Providence, RI, and brother Stephen Holmes of Melbourne, FL.

A private memorial will be held.
