Joseph R. Pellegrino, 88, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He was the loving husband of Domenica “Mimi” L. (Marianetti) Pellegrino, and is survived by his daughter Paula Pellegrino.
Joseph was a proud graduate of La Salle Academy and College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a degree in liberal arts. From 1962, Joseph built his career with the United States Department of Labor, Wage-Hour Division, becoming Assistant Director and then Regional Director before his retirement in 1999. He worked tirelessly on the part of the area’s workers, ensuring they received proper payment from employers in compliance with all federal labor laws.
In his youth, Joseph served faithfully as an altar boy at Holy Ghost Church on Federal Hill. This was the foundation upon which he built his lifelong devotion to the Catholic faith. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, local Troop 77 (Federal Hill), where he made lifelong friends and memories. Joseph was a veteran who served honorably in the United States Navy from 1959-1965. His favorite hobbies were telling stories, photographing his family, learning Italian, studying the Bible, playing favorite songs on his keyboard, calling football plays before they happened, and planting pretty flowers in his yard.
