John J. Wassman

July 9, 1926 — May 3, 2018

John Wassman, 91, of Palm City, FL, formerly of Providence, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Millie (Pellegrino) Wassman. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (De Franco) Wassman. A Navy veteran, John proudly served his country during World War II and remained an active member of the American Legion and other military organizations.  John was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before retiring and was a former Park Commissioner in Providence. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, Dillon Council and 4th Degree Adams Assembly. John was an avid Yankee fan and took great pride in his gardening skills.  He was awarded "The Best Edible Garden" by the City of Providence.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and looked forward to Sunday dinner with his children and grandchildren. Besides his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, he is survived by his loving daughters, Marilynn Conca and her husband Edward, and Patricia Zingale and her husband Philip; a brother, Vincent Wassman; two cherished grandchildren, John Conca and Michael Zingale, and two treasured great-grandchildren, Jordan Conca and Gianna Zingale. His funeral will be Tuesday May 8, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave, Providence. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Monday from 4 - 7 p.m.  Please omit flowers.
