John James Marasco III, aged 46, passed away on April 23rd at his residence in Providence. James Marasco was born on August 3, 1979, in Providence, RI to James T. and Joan M. Marasco, of Narragansett & Providence, R.I. He attended Henry Barnard School in Providence and graduated with pride from Moses Brown School in the Class of 1998. He loved the stage, performing in "Guys and Dolls" & "West Side Story." James studied at Columbia University before transferring and completing his degree in Political Science at University of Pennsylvania. He was enormously proud of his degree, as well as the friends he met during his time there. U Penn became a place that grew into a second home where he continued to enjoy stage performing and writing humorous quips about current affairs. During this time, he worked with Stephen Colbert on his television show and the two maintained a relationship.
Working in the family real estate business, Jim was a firebrand assisting in moving the business into the digital age, leading investment into domain name acquisition, social media groups, real estate acquisition, and numerous other profitable entrepreneurial ventures.
An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, Jimmy loved attending games and had the joy of being present in 2004 when the Red Sox broke the curse and won the World Series and for numerous Pats playoff runs.
A man of remarkable humor and intellect, he loved fiercely and encouraged many to pursue education as a key to success.
James loved to travel with trips to Taipei; London for the summer Olympics; the French Open in Rolland Garros; the Cannes Film Festival; Amsterdam; Las Vegas; Mardi Gras galas in New Orleans; and Outward Bound sailing camp. He loved people of all cultures and the cultivation of diverse experiences.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Laura Anne Marasco, Esq., and his brother, Michael Joseph Marasco. He also leaves his adored nephew Theodore Michael Marasco and twenty-three beloved cousins. James is the grandson of the late Ralph and Lucy Marasco of Narragansett, RI and the late Joseph and Dianna Sarro of Johnston, RI.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life and spirit of James J. Marasco III will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at a reception to share memories and celebrate James’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the James Marasco Memorial Fund at Moses Brown School, 250 Lloyd Avenue, Providence, RI 02906-2398, or in his memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). A Mass offered in James’s name would also be a precious gift.
