Gloria Capuano

September 7, 1926 — July 2, 2024

Capuano, Gloria L. (Paolino), 97, longtime resident of Providence and more recently of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 2, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Capuano for 67 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Giacomo (John) and Rosina (Rose) Paolino.

Gloria worked for the State of Rhode Island for many years, retiring in 1989 from the Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Prior to that, she had worked at the Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance Corporation and as a crossing guard for the city of Providence. After finishing high school, she worked at Quonset Point as part of the WWII effort.

She and her husband belonged to St. Augustine Church in Providence for over 60 years. Gloria was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and a past president. She and her husband John were actively involved in Scout Troop 76 of St. Augustine Church for many years.

Gloria was a wonderful cook and her recipes will live on through her family. She loved entertaining family and friends and traveling with her husband John. She loved playing cards and was an avid bingo player. In later years, she enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, many for friends and family.

Gloria was predeceased by her beloved son John L. Capuano, Jr. She is survived by her loving son Paul H. Capuano and his wife Sharon, and her daughter-in-law Marie Capuano.

She was the loving grandmother of Kristen Capuano Smith and her husband Glenn, John L. Capuano III, Kayla Capuano Gulick and her husband Robert, Marc P. Capuano and his wife Camille, Christopher J. Capuano, Benjamin D. Capuano, and the late Marisa Capuano, and great-grandmother of Nicholas Capuano, Sloane Gulick, John Robert Gulick, and Charles Capuano.

Gloria was the last surviving sibling of nine. She was predeceased by her sisters Theresa Macari, Evelyn Bergreen, her brothers John, Thomas, Christie, Lawrence, and Michael Paolino, and Joseph Cola. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

At Gloria's request, visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 6 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, Providence. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.

Our family expresses immense gratitude to the staff and community at The Seasons Assisted Living in East Greenwich. Gloria loved The Seasons and called it home for the past three years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gloria's name would be appreciated to The Seasons East Greenwich, 5 Saint Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
