George Sorafine, 83, of North Providence, Rhode Island, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, facing his illness with incredible strength, grace, and dignity.
He was the beloved son of the late Julia Caladrone Sorafine and the devoted husband of Deborah Sorafine. George was a loving and proud father to his children: Stephanie Wukich and her husband Marty of Florida; Anthony Sorafine and his wife Diana of Smithfield, along with their children Anthony and Paris Sorafine; Christopher Sorafine of Lincoln; and Gianna Sorafine and her fiancé Ryan Gula of North Providence. He was also a loving stepfather to Alicia Barnes and her husband Billy of North Carolina. He is also survived by his former spouse, Beverly Sorafine.
George is survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Giandolfi of Providence. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Vincent Giandolfi and Gail Giandolfi. He also leaves behind his cherished fur companion and best friend, his Yorkie, Mia, who brought him great comfort and joy.
George had an infectious smile, a warm laugh, and a vibrant energy, matched only by his zest for life and deep love for others.
A dedicated and driven businessman, George built a successful career over many years. He worked as a top salesman at Manchester Ford and Volkswagen Village before owning and operating several used car dealerships. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to design the interiors of many nursing homes in Rhode Island.
A man of discipline and passion, George had a lifelong love for martial arts. He trained extensively and proudly taught jujitsu and archero. Before his illness, he was almost always by the water, whether on a cruise ship or simply finding any excuse to be near it. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, taking his daily walks, and sharing his deep appreciation for good food.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was a member of the Tankers and Special Forces.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his Oncologist, Dr. Fred Shiffman and the compassionate nurses at Miriam Hospital for their exceptional care during George’s illness. As well as the dedicated staff of Hope Hospice, whose kindness and support brought comfort in his final days.
George will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His strength, determination, and love for his family will forever be remembered.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in George's Memory be made to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
