Evelyn V. Fargnoli

Evelyn V. Fargnoli, 93, of Providence, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.  She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph R. Fargnoli. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Bernadina (Bastardo) Verdi. Evelyn was the owner of Specialty Cleansing Co. in Providence. She was very active in her community starting with President of George J. West PTA, Chairman of District 8 Democratic Committee, Gov. Garrahy's Commission on Libraries and a member of 5th Ward Democratic Committee.  She served on the Providence City Council for 16 years, retiring as Council President in 1998, the Narragansett Bay Commission, Providence Water Supply Board, Providence Parks Commission, the R. I. C. Foundation, Providence College Presidents Council, the Providence Plan, the City of Providence Charter Commission of 1980 and 1990, and she was the recipient of the Italian American's Verrazano Award in 1997. She is survived by her son, John A. Fargnoli and his wife Bonnie; her daughter, Mary-Ellen Fargnoli; three grandchildren, James, John R. and Lesley Fargnoli: an older sister, Elvira LaTorre and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas, Geno and Lester Verdi, Eleanor Paparella, Maria Teresa Ciorlano and Josephine Verdi. Throughout her life, Evelyn Fargnoli woke up every morning determined to be the best person that she could be with kindness, fairness and forgiving. She loved her family very much. Her Funeral will be held Wednesday June 14, 2017 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave, Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
