Edward G. Bishop Jr., 84, of West Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn L. (Ruzzo) Bishop for an incredible 61 years. Born in Providence and raised in Cranston, he was the son of the late Edward and Catherine (Juszczak) Bishop.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Gregory Bishop and his wife, Valerie, and Kevin Bishop and his wife, Kelly; five grandchildren, Ashley Rafferty (wife of Bobby Rafferty), Zachary, Sophie, Cooper and Crosby Bishop; and two great-grandchildren, Bowen and Luke Rafferty. He was the eldest brother of Earl Bishop (deceased), Robert Bishop (deceased) and Dennis Bishop.
Ed was deeply committed, loyal and hard working which was exemplified by his over 40-year career at C.I. Hayes, an industrial furnace and heat treating equipment manufacturer, in Cranston where he worked as the foreman of the machine shop, before retiring.
Most notably, Ed was a loving, devoted and proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and friend who genuinely enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and friends. He affectionately had many nicknames including Eddie, Bish, Dad, Dad B, Grampy and Papa. He frequently attended the events of his children and grandchildren which provided him so much joy; loved to host and entertain family and friends; and enjoyed his winter getaways to Florida and summer days in Rhode Island around the pool and the grill, typically with Jimmy Buffett playing in the background. While Ed took some time to relax, he was a “doer, mover and a shaker” as he was always keeping busy, getting things done and taking care of others.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, 472 Atwells Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
