Christine Zannelli

Christine A. Zannelli, 71, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 14, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Richard Zannelli for fifty years.

Born in Providence on October 13, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Florie and Artemisia (Santini) Coia. Christine graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. She continued her education, earning a Master’s Degree from Providence College in 1978.

Christine was a special education teacher for the Johnston School District for 35 years. Throughout her tenure, she was nominated as Johnston’s teacher of the year multiple times, winning teacher of the year in 1989, and she was a runner-up for Rhode Island teacher of the year that same year. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, bingo, reading, and spending time with her family. Christine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and nana and always put the needs of others before her own.

In addition to her husband Richard, she is survived by her cherished sons, Matthew Zannelli and David Zannelli, his wife Natasha, and her three treasured grandchildren: Cristina, Michael and Santino.

Visitation will be held on Thursday morning, June 20, 2024 from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christine’s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
