Celestino "Charlie" Martuccelli

January 18, 1928 — March 24, 2024

Celestino "Charlie" Martuccelli, age 96, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024.  He was the beloved husband of the late Gemma (Feole) Martuccelli.  Born in Roccamonfina, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Raffaela (D'Attorre) Martuccelli.

Celestino was a graduate of the University of Naples.  After immigrating to the United States with his wife, he lived much of his life in Providence.  He was the Chief Medical Technologist for Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital for 35 years, before retiring in 1990.  He loved literature and music, and he enjoyed attending opera performances in New York City every year with his wife before her passing.  As a young man, he loved cycling, and in his later years, he enjoyed watching the Tour de France every summer.  He also enjoyed watching Italian soccer and was a great fan of Celtics basketball.  He became an avid walker in his retirement, which he enjoyed in the town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea in Florida, with summer visits to Rhode Island to spend time with his family.

Charlie was a regular blood donor, and he donated faithfully through the years.  He donated gallons of blood in his lifetime to help the health of others.

A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Cherella and her husband Robert, Beatrice Martuccelli, and Mary Jean Volpe and her husband Kenneth; five grandchildren, Dr. Christine Cherella (Dr. Zachary Glicksman), Michael Cherella (Vanessa Koo), Meredith Volpe, Benjamin Volpe, and William Volpe; and two great-granddaughters, Josephine and Caroline. He was the brother of the late Livia Iacobucci.  He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Lastly, he leaves his family's pups, Callie, Hugo, and Gilly.

Charlie's family would like to extend their profound gratitude to the staff at Cherry Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care given to Charlie while he was a resident there.  A very special thank you to the team at Beacon Hospice for the kind and compassionate care and spiritual support provided to him.

Visitation will be held on Friday morning, April 5, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence.  Interment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving the gift of life by donating blood and platelets to your local blood bank in memory of Charlie, since it was something he truly believed in and made a practice to do himself.
