Cecile "Ce" Rose Martineau

Cecile “Ce” Rose Martineau, 90, a lifelong resident of Smithfield with a heart of gold was called home to rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 27, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman A. Martineau. Born in a stone house in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late Edouard and Alice (LaBeau) Fontaine.

A loving mother, granny, great-granny, and great-great-granny, she will be missed dearly and cherished forever by her children, Norman J. Martineau and his wife, Donna, Kenneth A. Martineau and his wife, Rae, and Amy J. Kaighin and her husband, Eric; her adored “baby” sister, Claire Hamel (who she loved more); 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was the sister of the late Edward Fontaine, Florence Coulombe, and Therese Hamel.

Ce worked at Ritz Vanities, Mine Safety, and Lee’s Manufacturing for years. She then left official employment to take on her greatest mission. She became a homemaker and her love language was hospitality, which was served to all with heaping sides of warmth, compassion and love. The absolute beloved matriarch of our family, she loved playing all kinds of card and board games - although she was quite competitive and could get a little snarky when losing. She was a gifted writer. She was especially proud of composing her own book of memoirs titled “Many Happy Years.” She loved reading, crosswords, cooking, baking and most of all simply spending precious time with her amazing tribe of friends and family. Her heart and home were open to all. Our hearts are both broken and beyond blessed. Everyone needs a little vitamin Ce in their lives. Thank you God for ours.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 9 a.m. from Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
