Carmella Caramante Cerce

Carmella Cerce Caramante (Valletta), 89, formerly of North Providence, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at West View Health Care Center in West Warwick. She was the wife of the late Anthony Cerce and the late Joseph Caramante.. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Arduino and Concetta (Mastromatti) Valletta.

Carmella was the co-owner of the former Southern Belle Diner in Providence and was also a cook at the Federal Hill House. She loved to cook for her family and was dedicated to her children and grandchildren.

She leaves a son, Thomas J. Caramante and his wife, Jean; two daughters, Paula R. Schiavulli and Marie S. Engley and her husband, William; a brother, Caesar Valletta; three sisters, Jeanette Tortalano, Rosa Kazarian and Anna Mercurio; her grandchildren, Michael Caramante,his wife Kristen, Joseph Caramante and Zachary Engley and two great grandchildren, Mason and Madison Caramante. She was the grandmother of the late Thomas Caramante, Jr.; the mother-in-law of the late Michael Schiavulli and the sister of the late Alfred Valletta, John "Tut" Valletta, Paul Valletta and Mary Romano.

Her Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston. Visitation Monday 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886.
