Carmela “Cammie” Mercadante 97, of Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Emilio “Mickey” Mercadante, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Astoria, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Antonetta Prisco. She moved to Providence, RI with her parents as a young adult and worked in retail at Gladdings and Peerless.
She had a passion for Italian cooking and loved making food for her family. She enjoyed gardening and playing card games, including Old Maid and Uno. Cammie was an avid fan of the Yankees and shared her enthusiasm for the sport with her son Joe and granddaughter Amanda. She had the most beautiful voice and loved singing. Andrea Bocelli, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett were among her favorites. She valued her coffee dates and time spent with her friends laughing and sharing stories. Cammie deeply appreciated Sunday dinners with her immediate family, including Dolores who was like a second sister. She was a lifetime animal lover and adored dogs Coco and Watson, who were often found sitting on her lap. Spiritually, Cammie believed in the goodness of others and in the power of daily prayer.
Cammie is survived by her son Joseph Mercadante and his wife, Lori, and granddaughters Anjelica and Amanda Mercadante. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie (Prisco) Viscusi.
