Antonette "Etta" M. (Calenda) Sammartino, 97, of Providence, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 9, 2017. She was the wife of the late Nicholas A. Sammartino. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Alessandro and Giovanina (Vittorioso) Calenda.
Mrs. Sammartino was the office manager for Dr. Daniel Calenda, MD before retiring.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother she is survived by two sons, Nicholas Sammartino and his wife Karen and Stephen Sammartino; a brother, Dr. Alexander M. Calenda, MD; two grandchildren, Adrianna N. Ionkoff and her husband Adolfo and Nicholas J. Sammartino; and a great granddauther, Sofia. She was the sister of the late Dr. Daniel Calenda, MD, Dr. Carlo Calenda, MD and Anna "Nina" Marcone.
Visitation will be held Tuesday Morning, November 14, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. in the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 1493 Cranston St., Cranston. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Sammartino's memory may be made to: St. Robert Bellarmine Food Shelf, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI 02919. *PLEASE NOTE* DUE TO A BOILER ISSUE AT ST.
