Obituary

Dr. Alerino Iacobbo, 78, of Johnston, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, family, and friendships. He was the endearing husband of Claudia Iacobbo. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Pezzillo) Iacobbo.

Al dedicated much of his life to helping others see the world more clearly through his work as an Optometrist. He had a private practice in Johnston, worked at RIGHA, and Vision World, before he became President of Optometric Care Inc, and working at Westminister Eyecare. He also researched and published articles on specialized eye care. His robust career also included working as a realtor. He took great pride in his professions and, more importantly in the relationships he built with the many people he cared for throughout the years. His kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for others were qualities that made him so special.

Outside of his work, Al was happiest enjoying the simple pleasures of life and the great outdoors. He had a dry sense of humor in sharing his knowledge of the most unusual topics. Whether the conversation was about bread making, auto mechanics, home improvement, or cast iron cooking, Al was prepared with intriguing information.

He was also known for his sense of style, wearing Hawaiian shirts and cargo shorts, no matter the weather. Al also resided in Florida as a snowbird for over twenty years.

He spent many years camping seasonally with his family in Jamestown and eventually building a home on the water. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He loved us in his own special way and taught us lessons, that we will carry with us forever: about hard work; kindness; and making time for the people who matter most.

Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we are incredibly grateful for the years, memories, laughter, adventures, and love he gave us. We will carry him with us in the stories we tell, the traditions we continue, and every beautiful day spent outdoors.

Above all, Al was a family man. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Claudia, his children Nina Blake(Spencer), Marcus Mello(Erin), Melissa Difilippo(Philip), and his cherished grandsons Cameron Folgo, Colin Folgo, and Andrew LaPointe. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Dr. Maria Iacobbo, Anna Gosselin(Wade) and and his two nieces.

Visitation will be held on Monday morning, September 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, Johnston. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
