Loretta May DeFedele

August 9, 1934 — January 18, 2021

Loretta M. DeFedele (Morrone), 86, of Smithfield, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Roger Williams Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph DeFedele Sr. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Genaro and Laurette (Bessette) Morrone.

A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her 8 children, Joseph DeFedele Jr., Donald DeFedele and his wife Jean, Laurie Guidice and her husband Steve, Richard DeFedele and his wife Susanne, Lynn Macaruso and her husband Michael, Lisa DeFedele, Leigh Donatelli and her husband Thomas and Leslie Mastrostefano and her husband Mike. 16 grandchildren, Gina Lyn Braun, Christopher DeFedele, Meagan DeFedele, Matthew DeFedele, Joel DeFedele, Josh DeFedele, Jeremy Pfister, Rick DeFedele, Sarah Ludwig, Madison Macaruso, Sydney Macaruso, Jessica Medina, Amanda Suzzi, Ryan Donatelli, Shannon Donatelli and the late AmyLyn Mackenzie. 21 great-grandchildren, Anden, Hannah, Max, Cameron, Luke, Cody, Liam, Sophia, Ethan, Brianna, Grant, Onyx, Jolene, Devon, Erik, Raeann, Gabe, Elias, Aly, Abby, Andy and 1 great-great-grandchild, Artemis.

She was a parishioner of Mary Mother of Mankind Church in North Providence, where she sought and found comfort and clarity.

Her greatest treasures in life were her family and her beloved cat Zoe with whom she cherished every moment spent.

Besides spending time with family, Loretta loved bowling, bocce, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords and was a backyard cornhole champion.

Loretta had many friends she admired over the years, more recently spending what time she could with her two closest friends and neighbors, Sandy and Marge.

She will be missed dearly by all of the people in her life and leaves behind a great legacy of love.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St., North Providence, RI. Burial will be private.
