Carmelo L. Mazzarella

September 23, 1931 — January 17, 2022

Carmelo "Dick" L. Mazzarella, 90, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022. He was the loving and devoted husband of Marie (Iozzi) Mazzarella for over 64 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Biagio and Maddalena (DiBiasio) Mazzarella.

Carmelo was a meat cutter at Quinn Packing and Stop & Shop where he retired in 1996 and a member of the UFCW Local 328. He was a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his cherished children, Carla Spremulli and her husband Louis, Lisa Ricci, Anthony Mazzarella, Ann Marie Mazzarella and Marissa Nastasi and her husband Peter; his brother, Dr. Italo Mazzarella and his wife Barbara, five grandchildren, Christopher Ricci and his wife Diana, Michael Ricci and his wife Jessica, Isabella Nastasi, Peter Nastasi and Matthew Spremulli, two great grandsons Samuel and Jack, and his brother-in-law, John Iozzi and his wife Sandra. He was the father-in-law of the late Barry Ricci and brother of the late Joseph and Antonio Mazzarella.

The family would like to give a special thanks and praise to Davita North Providence Renal Center for the loving and gentle care given to Carmelo for over the past three and a half years.

Carmelo's joy and happiness was being surrounded with his loving family spending time eating delicious and special meals that he happily and proudly cooked himself. He prided himself on always having coffee ready and made for anyone who walked through the door.

His funeral will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Thursday 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers to honor Dick's memory please be caring and kind to one another.
