Welcome to the memorial page for

Nancy Elaine Prete

Nancy Elaine (Bradbury) Prete, of North Providence, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late former Providence fourth ward city councilman, state representative and owner of Frank A. Prete & Son Real Estate and Insurance Company, Joseph F. Prete.  Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Armitage) Bradbury. Nancy was raised in the Fairlawn section of Pawtucket, before moving to Providence where she resided with her husband and children for many years, before her move to North Providence after her children were grown.

She was a graduate of Pawtucket West High School and Katherine Gibbs Business School.  Nancy worked as a legal secretary in downtown Providence for many years before retiring from Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company after 20+ years. She was an avid reader, who loved her books, sometimes finishing a novel in a day. She always had a passion for home decorating, and making her house a home. Nancy was also a lifelong knitter, and made several beautiful afghans and home-made goods for her children and grandchildren throughout the years.  After her retirement in 2009, she became an active member of the North Providence Senior Center, where she enjoyed any and all social activities, especially playing the strategic games of Mahjong and Rummikub several days a week with her dear friends.

A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her three precious children, Melissa (Prete) Damiano and her husband John of Raleigh, NC, Wendy Statman and her husband Dr. Richard Statman of Sharon, MA and Frank A. Prete and his wife Renee of North Providence. She also leaves behind her six beloved grandchildren; Amanda and Jenny Damiano, Jake and Ben Statman, and Grant and Kyle Prete.  Nancy was the younger sister of the late Barbara Tordoff.

Funeral home visitation is respectfully omitted.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating her life this Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Historic Swan Point Cemetery Chapel, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence.  Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to: Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI  02904.
