Edward G. Fontaine, 89, of Smithfield, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Rose Marie (Beausejour) Fontaine. Born in Smithfield, he was the son of the late Edward and Alice (Lebeau) Fontaine.
Edward was a machinist for Lessona Corporation for many years and a custodian at the Smithfield School Department. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War, serving in France and Germany. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who built his home around his ever-growing family.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by a son, Edward Fontaine and his wife Wendy; five daughters, Lauraine Ouellette and her husband Robert, Susan Jennison and her husband Keith, Michelle Perry and her husband Alvin, Jacqueline Rose and her husband Michael and Sheryl Randle and her husband James; a son-in-law, Walter Powers; two sisters, Cecile Martineau and Claire Hamel, 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Cynthia Powers, and brother of the late Therese Hamel and Florence Coulombe.
His funeral will be Tuesday March 27, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
