WILLIAM B. SCHETTINI “BILL”, 89, of North Providence, died Friday May 17, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the loving husband of the late Arline U. (Angell) Schettini. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Biagio and Emelia (Cipolla) Schettini.
Bill was a barber for over 60 years and was the owner of Bill's Barber Shop, retiring at the age of 84. A graduate of the first graduating class of Mt. Pleasant High School, he then entered the United States Army during WWII. A rifleman and then a radio operator, Bill engaged in combat operations in France, Germany and Italy. He was part of the Normandy Invasion on D Day where he lost his younger brother that same morning. He was awarded the Purple Heart by General George S. Patton.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane E. DiNobile of North Providence and Denise E. Kemble of Providence; a brother, Robert Schettini of Taunton, MA and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Olga Corrente and Joseph, Arthur and Alfred Schettini.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7 pm. Please omit flowers.
