Salvatore F. Santoro

September 16, 1925 — February 8, 2013

SALVATORE F. SANTORO “CHICO”, 87, of North Providence, retired Battalion Chief of the Providence Fire Department, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2013 . He was the loving and devoted husband to Josephine (Colaneri) Santoro. Sal and Josie were married for 65 years. He was the son of the late Giuseppe A. Santoro and the late Giustina (Ferrara) Santoro.

Salvatore was born in Providence and was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He joined the Navy after high school and served his country in World War II. He became a fireman for the Providence Fire Department and worked his way up through the ranks and retired as a Battalion Chief and Chief of Rescue.

Sal was an active member in the community. He started the St. Ann CYO basketball and girls volleyball. He also managed and coached the Wanskuck Little League for several years. He was an avid card player and loved the New York Yankees. Sal was a wonderful man who enjoyed spending time with friends and his loving family.

Salvatore was the beloved father of Christine Robinson and her husband Kenneth, Joseph Santoro and his wife Shirley and Michael Santoro and his companion Elaine Gargano. He was a loving grandfather to Lauren Franco (Boscia), Joseph A., Jonathan, Jarod and Taylor Santoro. Sal is also survived by his brother Alfred Santoro and is preceded in death by his brothers, Cesare, Antonio “Chuck” and John Santoro and his sisters Maria Corrente and Palma Burchette.

Salvatore Santoro was a man you could count on. The world will always be a better place because he was here. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Visitation Thursday morning, February 14, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
