Robert L. Garofano, 82, of North Providence, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Susanne A. (De Marco) Garofano and father of Robert L. Garofano, Jr. of Providence. He was the son of the late Frank and Angelina (DiPaolo) Garofano.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves a brother, Richard Garofano and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frank Garofano, Eleanora Capuano and Emily DiChiara.

Robert was International Auditor for the Laborers International Union of North America AFL-CIO and retired in 2000. From 1979 to 1982, he worked for the City of Providence in the Office of Economic Development and was Director of Public Property for the City and from 1960 to 1974 he was the Northeastern Sales Manager for the Carnation Company. He was a former President of the Italo-American Club of Rhode Island. He was active in Rhode Island Politics and was the youngest person to serve on the GOP State Central Committee. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Alpine and Valley Country Clubs. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Korea from 1946 to 1948 and attended Rhode Island School of Design from 1950 to 1952. He always looked forward and enjoyed his traveling and winter time in Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St Ann Church, 280 Hawkins St., Providence. Calling hours respectfully omitted. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to VNA of RI, 475 Kilvert St., Suite 400, Warwick, RI 02886.
