Richard J. Schweitzer

d. November 21, 2016

Richard J. Schweitzer, 68, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his wife and children at his side on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. He was the loving husband of Martha A. (Eagan) Schweitzer for 33 years. Born in Oradell, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Walter and Rosemary (Jordan) Schweitzer.

Richard was a Customer Service Manager for Wasatch Front Home Services for many years before retiring. He especially loved his grandchildren and all his family. He was considered a father and grandfather figure to many many people. He was a man who spoke and lived with passion. He had many names like, Rick, Rich, Big Ricky, Grandpa, Papa Rich, Uncle and Dad. He loved being outdoors and appreciated the little things in life like cold beer, a nice day at the beach or a great piece of steak on the grill. Richard loved a clear night to look at stars. He was a bird watcher and an all around animal lover. He was a collector of many things, some would say he’s king of knick knacks. He loved rich food and a good vodka tonic, unless it was summer, then you better make it a Myers rum & Coke. He loved Jamaica and a party. Richard was a history and geography buff and loved to tell you all about it. He loved the Yankees and hated the Red Sox. Most of all he loved spending time with friends and family.

He will be missed extremely. He was a person with incredible energy and a true fighter to the very end. We love and miss you very much!

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Erik Schweitzer and his wife Ali; two daughters, Lindsay Schweitzer and her husband Michael Stanley, and Sarah Schweitzer; two sisters, Kathy Coogan and Ellen Barry; and four grandchildren, Conner, Mackenzie, Hunter and Francesca.
