Matrthew L. Vollucci, Sr., 92, of Providence, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Ida (Bertone) Vollucci.. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Lucia (Gervasio) Vollucci.
Matthew served as a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service and was a member of the Association of Retired Letter Carriers. A WWII Army Veteran, he was a member of the 43rd “Clover Leaf” Infantry Division and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Matthew was the recipient of the Bronze and Silver Stars. He enjoyed music, traveling and ballroom dancing.
He leaves two sons, Matthew L. Vollucci, Jr. and his wife, Karen and David J. Vollucci and his wife, Susan; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Edward and Eugene Vollucci. Henrietta Primavera, Vera McGuire and Filomena Wilks.
His funeral will be held Friday, December 10, 2010 at 9 a.m., from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence. Visitation Thursday 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Condolences at maceroni.com
