Margaret DiGiovanni (Destino), 89, of Providence, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008 after a long illness. She was born in Providence on May 25, 1919 to Camillo Destino and Christina Palmieri. She was the wife of the late Nicholas DiGiovanni and the sister of the late Ralph Destino of Westport, CT.

Prior to her marriage in 1944, she worked in the jewelry industry in Providence and headed her own jewelry business, Margo Company, during the war years. Although a Rhode Island native, she spent 14 years living in Lynn, Salem and Peabody, MA before returning to Providence in 1963. For many years she was an employee of Industrial National Bank and Fleet Bank until her retirement in 1982. She did considerable charity work, especially with Autistic children.

With a life long passion for flowers, she was a devoted gardener and a member of several garden clubs over the years, most recently the Sundial Garden Club of Rhode Island. She was also an avid golfer earlier in her life; and enjoyed jewelry making, opera, scrap booking, Scrabble, and reading in her later years.

She leaves her son, Nicholas DiGiovanni, Jr. of Danvers, MA; her sister and brother-in-law, Florence and William DeQuattro of Providence; step sisters, Etta Greco of East Greenwich and Louise Greco of Johnston; daughter-in-law, Candace Thierry of Marlboro, MA; her grandchildren, Nicholas M. DiGiovanni of Maynard, MA; Damien M. DiGiovanni of Marlboro, MA; Hilary Meyer of Brooklyn, NY and Jessica Meyer Little of Leesburg, VA and her great-grandchildren, Eloise and Charlie Little.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10am in St. Pius Church, Eaton St., Providence. Visitation Tuesday from 6 to 8pm in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the National Autism Association, 1330 W. Schatz Lane, Nixa, MO 65714.
