LOUIS GROCCIA, 90, of North Providence, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the beloved husband of Celia A. (Lancellotti) Groccia. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Natale and Concetta (Nigri) Groccia.
Mr. Groccia worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. He was a member of the Sal Mancini Senior Center and was active in community sports, having coached North Providence Jets Football and North Providence West Baseball. He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Besides his wife of 61 years, he leaves his son, Louis Groccia, Jr. and his girlfriend, Jessica Almy; two brothers, Alfred Groccia and his wife Marie of Greenville and Armando Groccia and his wife Rose of North Providence and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael, John and Margaret Groccia, Mary Rossi and Rose Sturiale.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the MACERONI FUNERAL HOME, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St., North Providence. Visitation Tuesday 4-7 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
