Louis P. DeIorio, 82, of Providence, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Blanche Hooper. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Lucia “Lucy” (DiMeglio) DeIorio and Giuseppe “Joe” DeIorio.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children; Mary Boyle and her husband Michael of Smithfield and their children Michael, John and Nicole; Jo-Anne Kessinger and her husband Keith of Smithfield and their children Keith and Lily; Lisa DeMars and her husband Paul of Smithfield and their children Daniel, Meghan and Joseph; Leo Caffrey and his wife Doris of North Providence and their children Kelly and Kristen; Linda Young of Smithfield and her son Christopher; Lawrence “Lonnie” Caffrey of Foster and his wife Jennifer and their children Ethan and Emma; sisters Irene Langella of Warwick, Palma Matera and her husband Matthew of Virginia; nieces and nephews, Irene Villella of Warwick, Anthony Langella, Jr. of Warwick, Steven Matera of Maryland and Laura Matera of Pennsylvania. He was the brother-in-law of the late Anthony Langella.
A 1948 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Louis served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Union and was currently employed as a security guard for Poppasquash Point in Bristol. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association. He was instrumental in acquiring the designated public parking spaces on Nayatt Point in Barrington which was one of his favorite fishing spots.
His funeral will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt Pleasant Ave., Providence. Visitation Thursday 4-7 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
