Lester D. Verdi, 86, of Providence, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Lessard) Verdi and the late Elizabeth (Santopietro) Verdi. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antonio and Bernardine (Bestardo) Verdi.
Lester had worked for the Rhode Island College Dining Services. A baseball enthusiast and Yankee fan, he played semi-pro baseball in the 1940’s and was a RI State Champion in Table Tennis. An army infantry veteran of WWII, he served in the European Theater.
He leaves three sisters, Elvira LaTorre, Eleanor Paparella and her husband Ralph and Evelyn V. Fargnoli. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas and Geno Verdi, Maria Teresa Ciorlano and Josephine Verdi.
Visitation Tuesday morning 9-10am in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St Mary Church, Cranston St., Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
