Lawrence L. Chin

d. February 4, 2016

Lawrence L. Chin was born in China and grew up in Providence, RI. He prospered in his youth, graduating from Classical High School in RI. and then from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Shortly after receiving his bachelor’s degree, Larry served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where his dream of traveling and admiring the fine arts of Europe came true. He furthered his education and earned a master’s degree from his Alma Mater which gave him the opportunity to advance his studies in ceramics abroad in Japan as a Road Scholar recipient.

For most of his midlife, Larry was a restaurateur and in his later years he worked at the Providence VA Medical Center where he retired in 2000. Larry made many friends over his life and was very appreciative for the fine care he received from the Providence VA Medical Center.
Larry enjoyed every day of his retirement, actively pursuing his passion for ceramics at several of the local universities and colleges. He was a proud Army Veteran who enjoyed the freedom of mobility, listening to classical music, keeping up with current events and mentoring inspiring young art students. Larry was a caring family man and a good friend to many.

Larry, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Chin for whom he was married for 47 wonderful years; his two children, Anthony Chin and Maisanna Maung and his brother, Peter Chan and three nieces Christina, Melissa, Rebecca and one nephew Jason. His funeral will be private.
