Joseph G. Sarro, 94, of Johnston, formerly of Ames St,. Providence, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at home where he was lovingly cared for by his daughter Marcia. He was the husband of the late Diana (Patriarca) Sarro. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raffaele and Lea (Guglielmo) Sarro.
Mr. Sarro was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service as well as a member of the Letter Carriers' Union. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was also a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church where he served as an usher. Joseph was well-known for his warm smile and generous nature and for his baby blue eyes.
He is survived by his son, Joseph G. Sarro; two daughters, Marcia M. Nixon and Joan M. Marasco; a brother Dante Sarro, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Frank, Alfonso, and John Sarro and Olga Simonelli.
Visiting hours Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd,. Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
