Joseph G. San Martinio 83, of Providence, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 10, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Josephine (Rioles) San Martino. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Clara (Golini) San Martino.
He was a Lieutenant with the Providence Fire Department for 32 years until his retirement and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. An avid Golfer, he was a member and Past President of the Triggs Memorial Golf Course Inner Club.. He was also a big Patriots fan. While in High School in 1943, he earned the status of All State in Baseball. A former musician, he loved Jazz music.
Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Besides his wife of 57 years, he leaves two daughters, Pam San Martino and Claire Rose and her husband, Henry Rose, Jr.; a grandson, Henry J. Rose III and his wife Meghan and a great grandson, Henry J. Rose IV. He was pre-deceased by his granddaughter, Erica Claire Rose, his brothers, Anthony San Martino and Nicholas “Jake” San Martino and his sister, Geraldine Patterson.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 10 a.m., from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Ave., Providence. Visitation Tuesday 4-7p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
