Joseph R. Baglini, 78, of Narragansett, formerly of Providence, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Deziel) Baglini for 55 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Louis and Angelina (Santangelo) Baglini of North Providence. He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. Joseph was employed as an engineer by the New England Telephone Co. for twenty-nine years before his retirement. He also owned and managed real estate properties for over fifty years. He volunteered his time at St. Thomas Parish in Providence as a lector and property manager. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a member of the Mountain Valley Meadow Snowmobiling Club of New Hampshire.

Joseph was the loving father of Jane Shawcross and her husband William of Methuen, MA, Joyce May and her husband Richard T. of Cranston, Mark Baglini and his wife Rita of Essex, Vermont, and Mary Beth Persons and her husband Robert of Westwood, MA; the loving grandfather of Kara and Allison Shawcross, Joshua May and his wife Kellet, Kate and Holly May, Andrew and Elliot Baglini, and Robert J., Rebecca and Austin Persons; the proud great-grandfather of Lillian May and the dear brother of Ann Sardelli (and the late Edmund), Paul (and Ann), Edward (and Joan), John (and Kay) and Robert (and Donna Jean) Baglini. He was also the loving uncle of many nephews and nieces.

Joe enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling during various stages of his life. In later years he and his wife enjoyed many wonderful world travels. He received great satisfaction using his incredible work ethic along with his carpentry and many other handyman skills to help his many friends, family and church with projects of all types. He took pride in his vacation home in North Conway, New Hampshire that he and his son designed and built themselves. Joe’s greatest pride was his family.

His funeral will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence, RI, 02909 or to Notre Dame High School, 207 Hampshire St. Lawrence, MA 01841.
