Joseph L. Gates, 78, of Johnston, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jennie (Ianiere) Gates. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James W. and Alice (Carroll) Gates.
Joseph worked as a toolmaker at Electric Terminal for 35 years. He was a Parishioner, Acolyte and Eucharistic Minister at St. Thomas Church in Providence. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves a son, Leonard J. Gates; two daughters, Denise A. Mazza and Dawn H. Balasco; a sister, Genevieve Lamoureux and eight grandchildren, Aubrie Mazza, Adrienne Mazza, Anthony Mazza, Andrea Mazza, Megan Gates, John Balasco, Kayla Balasco and Emily Balasco. He was the brother of the late James and Noel Gates, Virginia Pallas and Hope Sepe.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m., from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence. Visitation Friday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to American Heart Association, One State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908.
