Joseph Abbruzzese, 80, of Johnston, formerly of Smithfield, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the husband of Shirley (Gordon) Abbruzzese. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antonio and Mariannina (Marzarella) Abbruzzese.
Joseph had worked as an electrician with the R.I. DOT for 10 years until his retirement. He had previously worked for Mr. Vac of Cranston for 10 years and Walco Electric for 15 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Elks Lodge 2359 and VFW Post 2929, both of Smithfield.
Besides his wife of forty years, he is survived by two step sons, James Ferrazza and his wife Lisa and Albert “Buddy” Ferrazza and his wife Paula; a step daughter Patricia De Santo and her husband Carl; two brothers, Victor “Dick” Abbruzzese and Anthony “Jr.” Abbruzzese and two sisters, Celia Pacheco and Anna DeMauro. He was the step father of the late Debra Ferrazza and the brother of the late Gene and Salvatore “Sam” Abbruzzese, and Josephine Betts.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston. VISITATION Thursday 5-8pm. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
