John "Dinkey" Silvia

October 8, 1944 — January 4, 2016

JOHN ALFRED SILVIA “Dinkey” ,71, of Johnston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 4, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie “Peggy” (Gibson) Silvia. They were happily married for 46 years. Born in Newport, he was a son of the late John and Regina (Meighan) Silvia.

John worked as a meat cutter for M.T. Marcellos for 25 years and also with various companies before his retirement. He was an avid fan of the Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins. An avid bowler, John loved bowling every Friday night at Lang’s Bowlarama for over 12 years. He was a life member of the Elks, Coventry-West Warwick, Council 2285 for 38 years and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a loving daughter, Sheri Silvia and her husband Edward Martino; cherished grandchildren, J.P. and Justina Martino; and devoted sisters, Patricia Pina, Maureen Silvia, Sheila DeMedeiros, Rosemary Hannagan and Janice Salzillo. He was the brother of the late Regina Silvia.

His funeral with Military Honors will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main St., Providence. Burial will be private. VISITATION Thursday 4-7 p.m.
