John R. Zodda

d. October 20, 2010

John R. Zodda, 82, of Johnston, RI and also of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lucy (Bottone) Zodda. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Antonina (Olivo) Zodda.

He was a Driver/Salesman for Continental Bakery for 35 years until retiring and later worked for Superior Bakery. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Besides his wife of 52 years, he leaves a son, John C. and wife, Ann-Marie; three daughters, Tonia Mason and her husband Fred, Jr., Laura Ottaviano and her husband, Russell and Natalie Ocepek and her husband, Paul; a brother, Frank and wife Pauline and ten grandchildren – Mathew (25), Andrew (19), Taylor (17), Alyssa (17), Elena (17), Andrea (15), Ariana (14), Stephen (13), Amy (9) and Ella (7). He was the brother of the late Andrew Zodda.

John was a man who loved to laugh. And even more, he loved to make other people laugh. He was always ready with a joke or a funny story to make you smile. He was warm and kind and friendly and was always willing to serve others. He lived life faithfully as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He had no enemies and lots of close friends – whether at church, work or his Florida winter home; from his army days, or on the Rhode Island and Florida golf courses. Even people who normally would fit in the category of acquaintances thought of John more as a good friend. Though he worked with numbers his whole life, everyone knew that at heart, he was really a word smith. He loved crosswords, jumbles, wheel of fortune and any other word game. While he “played” the numbers, he should have really been a player on Jeopardy -- where we’re sure he would have won the jackpot!

His funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Rocco Church, Atwood Ave., Johnston. Visitation Sunday 2-5 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Rocco Church, 927 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI 02919.
