John A. Marino

November 16, 1922 — September 3, 2011

John A. Marino, Sr., 88, of N. Providence, RI, passed away at the Miriam Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Josephine and Joseph Marino. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a Veteran of WWII. Before retiring, John was the Sales Manager of Homestead Baking Company for over 20 years. He also worked for the N. Prov. D.P.W. from 1986 to 1996. He loved public service and served on several N. Prov. boards and committees including N. Prov. Town Council, Police Advisory Board, Senior Citizen’s Center B.O.D., Board of Canvassers and N. Prov. Chapter of the Sons of Italy. John was voted N. Prov. Man of the Year in 1979.
John is survived by his two sons, Joe (and his wife, Dororthy) and John, Jr., as well as six adoring grandchildren, Michael (and his wife, Karen), Kevin ( and his wife, Sharon), Lori, Jason (and his wife Susan), Johnny, and Erin and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan. John was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Lucy; his brothers, Dominic “Mim” and Tony and two sisters, Florence Giarusso and Carmella Rego.
John will be remembered for his love of music, his talent for making people laugh and his zest for living.
His funeral will he held Wednesday at 9 a.m., from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Intombment with Military Honors will be in Our Risen Christ Mausoleum, St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to the N. Providence Salvatore Mancini Senior Citizen’s Center, 2 Atlantic Blvd., North Providence, RI 02911.
