John Hanni, 72, lifelong Providence resident, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2012 He is survived by his loving wife Catherine, beloved children John D. Hanni (and Olanda) and Caroline (and Tim) Parker and cherished grandchildren, Audrey and Saul Parker. He was the son of the late Anna “Bessie” (Saad) and Michael Hanni and nephew of Anthony Saad, who was like a father.
John was a kind, thoughtful and sensitive soul, a silversmith trained at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, who taught metal-smithing at RISD and was self-employed for years. He went on to design for and run various jewelry firms in RI’s jewelry industry heyday. He had deep faith and broad interests, from deep-sea fishing to museums, gardening to black-tie events, but his greatest pleasures were those of having his family near, including the close-knit community of cousins at St. George Maronite Church and the special cousins that live far from RI but were extremely close to his heart.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St George Maronite Church at St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main St., Providence. Visitation Monday 5-8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to St. George Maronite Church, Box 367, Lincoln, RI 02865 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Tribute Program, P.O. BOX 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
