Jean Moriarty

October 24, 1947 — June 8, 2013

JEAN MORIARTY (DeRESTA), 65, died in her daughter and son-in-law’s home on June 8, 2013 with her loving family by her side. She passed away too young after a long and brave fight.
Jean was born in Providence and was the beloved daughter to the late Joseph and Elena DeResta. She was the generous and loving mother to her daughter Christina Marsland and son-in-law Chris Marsland who she adored as a son.

Jean was a generous and loving family member to her twin sister Carol Duarte and brother-in-law Bill Duarte and to her younger sister Doris Marovelli. She also loved and leaves behind nephews and nieces who she adored, John & Victoria Duarte and John & Kristin Marovelli. Other loving family members that she leaves behind include her great nieces and nephew, Charissa Elena Champagne and Niccolo, Naomi, and Mia Palmisano, and her cousins Cathy Zanfagna, Barbara & John Izzo, and the Wright/Calitri Families.

She had a sharp mind and excelled during any employment that she had throughout her lifetime. Her last place of employment before retiring was at Blue Fin Capital in Providence, which she loved as they made her feel as if she were family. After Retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her daughter during the week and working on their small business together which with everything she touched, made excel. On the weekends, she would spend time with her sisters going wherever the car and her brother-in-law would take them. Throughout their lifetime, the sisters remained very close and Jean loved both of her sisters very much.

Though Jean had an exceptional mind, it was exceeded by her generous heart whether giving to charity or being there for her family. She did very little for herself but would always think of others, most especially her daughter. There is nothing that she wouldn’t do for her daughter, making her feel special and loved.

Her funeral will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence. Visitation Thursday 4-7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907.
