Jean Cathernie Gasbarro

d. December 4, 2009

Jean Catherine Gasbarro (Zajac) of Holliston, MA, beloved wife of Pasco Gasbarro III, and devoted daughter of Edward and Regina (Ryan) Zajac of Green Valley, AZ, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009 at home surrounded by family and friends, from complications caused by a rare form of appendix cancer. She was 39 years old.

Jean grew up in Bloomfield, NJ, and graduated from Bloomfield High School. She attended Richard Stockton College and received a graduate degree in librarianship at Rutgers University. She pursued a career in rare books, archives and genealogy at the New Jersey Historical Society and Morristown Free Library. While attending summer classes at the University of Virginia Rare Book School, she met her husband. They were married in April 1999 in Barrington, RI. Despite her cancer and many treatments and surgeries, Jean pursued an active, fulfilling life, serving as an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed a successful career at IDG Communications, managing the international licensing and publication of famous computer and technology magazines. Because she worked through most of her illness, Jean earned several IDG awards and the esteem of colleagues and publishing partners worldwide.

Jean was a skilled photographer and combined her talents with her passion for travel, producing landscapes and collage photos, which she sold or auctioned for charity. She traveled around the world for business and personal adventure to Italy, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Serbia, Croatia, Portugal, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. Her most recent adventure was a three-week dream vacation in the Hawaiian Islands, which produced many beautiful pictures and memories.
Jean also was actively involved in research and support for people who suffered from her rare form of appendiceal cancer, also known as PMP.

Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by her husband’s parents, Pasco and Mary Alyce Gasbarro of Barrington, RI; her husband’s brothers, John Gasbarro and his wife Anne of Barrington, RI, and Christopher Gasbarro and his wife Marianne of Norfolk, MA; seven nieces and nephews; and over a half dozen god-children, and her beloved Labrador Retriever, Cooper.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, December 12, 2009 in St. Lukes’s Church, 108 Washington Rd., Barrington, RI, followed by burial in Santa Maria del Campo Cemetery in Barrington, and a memorial celebration nearby.
