James D'Arezzo, 83, of Warwick, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. . He was the beloved husband of Rita (Hamel) D’Arezzo. Born in Providence, he was the devoted son of the late Albert and Victoria Maria (Franco) D’Arezzo. He was predeceased by his loving sister, Adeline Anna (D’Arezzo) Colaluca.
Mr. D’Arezzo was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the European Theater, specifically in Anzio, Italy for which he received the Purple Heart. He also distinguished himself through his business acumen. He served as Comptroller for the former Campanella Corporation and later became a partner of PAR Corporation of Providence. He was on the Board of Incorporation of Johnson and Wales University and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony Chapter and the Valley Country Club. Most recently, he owned and operated Arthur Angelo School of Cosmetology and Hair in Providence and subsequently served as a consultant for the Regis School in Warwick before retiring in 2007. A faithful communicant of SS. John and James Church in West Warwick, he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist and a member of the Board of Trustees. Because of his passionate belief in the principles of our country’s Founding Fathers, he encouraged everyone he met to pursue the American Dream. He will be sadly missed.
Besides his wife of 37 years, he leaves his devoted daughter, Laura Lee (Baxter) Lawing and his son-in-law, Bruce Lawing; two grandchildren, Kelly Trammell and Michael Lawing; two great granddaughters, Madison Lawing and Morgan Lawing; his loving niece, Kathleen DePasquale and his great nephew, James DePasquale.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in SS. John and James Church , 20 Washington St., West Warwick. Visitation Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
