Frederick E. Baldoni,Jr., 84, of Smithfield, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the husband of Marie E. (Marciano) Baldoni. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frederick E. Baldoni and Amelia (DiOrio) Baldoni.

Frederick worked for the City of Providence as Program Administrator and Director of the Federal Summer Food Program for Children. He had also served as Assistant Recreation Director for the Providence Recreation Department and upon leaving the department, the City of Providence proclaimed January 7, 1988 as “ Fred Baldoni Day”. He was the President and Treasurer of Team Sports, Inc. from 1971 to 1982 and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island Amateur Softball Association. He attended the University of Miami and received a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1950 and was inducted into the “M” Club as an outstanding baseball player. He was the recipient of the Mt. Pleasant High School Varsity Club “Man of the Year” award, the RI Recreation and Park Association, John “Jack” Cronin Award for outstanding service to the recreation profession and was inducted into the Rhode Island Order of the Sons of Italy in America Sports Hall of Fame. He was a WWII Navy Veteran.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his son, Frederick D. Baldoni and his sister Evelyn Farnesi. He was the father of the late William F. Baldoni.

His funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m., from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Ave., Johnston. VISITATION Thursday 5-8 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Food Closet, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI 02919.
