Francesco De Luca, 74, of Providence, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Flora (Porreca) De Luca. Born in Panni, Province of Foggia, Italy, he was the son of the late Michele and Michelina (Ciacierllo) De Luca.

Francesco graduated from Il Liceo Classico Tarquato Tasso di Salerno, Italy, Parificato. He worked as the Vice Director and Headmaster of L’Istituto Colautti di Salerno before emigrating to the United States in 1960. From 1965 to 1974 he worked as a machinist for Lessona Corporation and also attended The University of Rhode Island Insurance Institute, graduating in 1973. He was employed as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company until retiring in 1988.

Since 1987, he was an active member of the Santa Maria Di Prata Club of Cranston and was the Founder and First President of the Santa Maria Di Prata Azzurri Soccer Club. He was a Past Member of Il Circolo Giovanni Ventitreesimo at Holy Ghost Church in Providence and was the Founder and Past President of the Giovanni Ventitressimo Soccer Team. He was also the Founder of La Scoula di Italiano of Rhode Island at Holy Ghost School and was a Past Member of the Comitato Degli Italiani al estero, representing Italian immigrants to the Italian Consolate of New England.

Besides his wife of 50 years, he leaves two sons, Michael De Luca and his wife, Janet and Luca De Luca and his wife Lori; a daughter, Ramona Di Palma and her husband, Paul; two brothers, Leonardo and Costanzo De Luca and six grandchildren, Francesco, Paolo and Michaela De Luca, Nicholas, Chiara and Johnny Di Palma.

His Funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m., from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith Street, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Knight St., Providence. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115 or to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
