Ernest L. Meunier, 91, of Smithfield, formerly of Providence and Lincoln, passed away, April 6, 2010 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of the late Irene V. (Lapre) Meunier. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Alfred and Marie Barbara (Poirier) Meunier.
Ernest and his wife were professed members of the Marist Third Order of Mary. He was a graduate of Central High School and attended Rhode Island School of Design. Bryant College awarded him a degree of Bachelor Science in accounting, graduating Suma Cum Laude. He was a member in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) stationed in Casper, Wyoming and was enlisted in the Navy during 1942. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service where he held positions as a special agent in the intelligence division and as an internal revenue agent in the audit division. Playing sports including football, baseball, weight lifting and body building were his main interests.
He is survived by four daughters, Beatrice Remington of Esmond, Virginia Chiodini of Woodland Hills, CA, Rose-Marie Eckes of Chico, CA and Carolyn Whitecross of Sunny Isles Beach, FL; four sons, Ernest C. E. Meunier of Smithfield, Robert Meunier, Esq. of Arlington, VA, James R. Meunier of Arvada, CO and Daniel J. Meunier of Johnston; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Marie Meunier, Anna Vigneau, Eva Desgranges, Wilfred, Elias, Edward, Alexander, Francis, Herbert, Louis, Clifford and Normand Meunier.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, Camp St., Providence. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Church, 99 Camp St., Providence, RI 02906 or St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Ave., Greenville, RI 02828.
