ELEANOR JANE NAPOLITANO (D’AMICO), 89, of Providence, RI, wife of the late John Napolitano, died peacefully, painlessly, fully accepting and with dignity on November 29, 2013 surrounded by loving family in the compassionate care of Miriam Hospital. Ele had no children – yet a hundred kids. She was a devoted and adoring sister to the late Corrine Brown, the late Gloria Cortalesso, Nicholas D’Amico of Pawtucket, and Pasco D’Amico of Florida; a loving daughter to Marion Calcagni D’Amico and Nicholas D’Amico; a best friend and “Aunty” to a legion of loving nieces and nephews and a dear friend to countless others. Ever the caretaker, Eleanor stood faithful vigil at the bedsides of her husband John, her lifelong best friends Dorothy and Rose and her two sisters in their final days. She enjoyed a dry red wine, a plate of aglio e olio, a good laugh and the occasional trip to Twin Rivers with her beloved neighbors at Metcalf Apts. Everyone Eleanor touched fell helplessly under her charming spell and became a friend for life. Though not a woman of means, she carried herself like royalty. And despite a paucity of material riches, Aunty Eleanor was quick to share what she had with those who had even less, and never forgot to mark a birthday with a card and a check. She became an animal lover late in life and counted as family, Max, Mikey, Chloe and Daisy. She is already sorely and sadly missed.
