Edith G. Montaquila (Gagnon) 72, of Coventry, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Arnold Montaquila, Esq. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Rose (Bellano) Gagnon.

In September 2010, Edith retired as the first Business Manager for Holy Apostles Church, Cranston in order to be a full time Noni to her granddaughter Bella.

She is survived by her husband, her loving and devoted daughter, Patricia Montaquila-Mowry and husband Eric. Edith is also survived by her precious granddaughter, Isabella “Bella” Rose and her little pug Allen and many nieces and nephews. She was the devoted sister of the late Patricia Gagnon who was buried on the same day that Edith’s daughter was baptized in the hospital after it was thought that she would not survive a serious illness. Edith then decided to name her daughter after her deceased sister.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 8:30am from the MACERONI Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith’s memory may be made to: The Providence Animal Shelter, 200 Terminal Road, Providence, RI 02905 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
